COTABATO CITY (November 1, 2025) — Eight soldiers and a civilian involved in a vehicular accident in Barangay Angilan in Omar, Sulu on Monday, October 27, are still in hospitals, undergoing treatment of the serious wounds, contusions and bone fractures caused by the mishap.
Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, commander of the Philippine Army, visited on Friday, October 31, the injured soldiers and the civilian confined to the Camp Navarro General Hospital in Zamboanga City and provided them with cash assistance from his office that they can spend for their needs while
Five of the injured soldiers are in the military hospital while the rest are in a private medical institution, radio reports on Saturday morning in Cotabato City stated.
“We assured them that the Philippine Army, as an organization, will extend to them all forms of assistance they need for their recovery,” Nafarrete told reporters in Cotabato City via text message on Saturday.
The eight soldiers were together in a military vehicle that reportedly rolled over at a stretch of a highway in Barangay Angilan in Omar, one of the eight municipalities in Sulu, after its driver lost control due to mechanical trouble.
Nafarette said he is thankful to the villagers and local government emergency responders who helped transport the victims to medical dispensaries in Sulu for first aid before they were evacuated to Zamboanga City for more extensive medical treatment.
Major Gen. Donald Gumiran, WestMinCom commander, said they are closely observing the condition of the patients while providing them essential support for their speedy recovery.
